.Laufey Jensdóttir was born in Reykjavík 1961 but grew up in Dalasýsla. She graduated with a B.A degree in arts 2002 and a Diploma in art education 2003 from Iceland Academy of the Arts. She also studied arts at Fjölbrautarskólinn í Breiðholti, 1997 - 1999 and The Kópavogur Art School 1998 and 1999. She studied Technical Drawing at The Reykjavík Technical School 1982 – 1983 after having graduated from Menntaskólinn við Sund in 1982.
Laufey is specialized in ceramics but she is also keen on other medias. In her work she has focused on letting the rawness of the material flourish by exploiting the coincidental path the work can take during process.
Rawness, accidental flow, irregularity, variety, quantity and multitude are her main objectives. To combine different materials, make exaggerated decorations, taking things out of context, be a little corny and provocative is also worth a struggle in her opinion.
Laufey teaches art at Rimaskóli Reykjavik and runs a workshop at Garðatorg 1, in Garðabær. She has been very active in promoting art and artists in her hometown Gardabær which rewarded her with a grant in 2009 along with a title: "Town Artist of 2009"
Laufey is a member of Glóandi, an artgroup consisting of seven practising female artists in Iceland and Austria. She is a co-founder of Gróska Artgroup in Gardabær and it's president since march 2016. Laufey is also member of Art67 a group of artists running a gallery at Laugavegur 67 in Reykjavik.
